NGC 3077 သည် M81 Group အဖွဲ့၏ ဂလက်ဆီငယ်ဖြစ်ပြီး အာရှာ မေဂျာ ကြယ်စုတန်း၌ တည်ရှိသည်။ Catalogue of Named Galaxies တွင် ယင်းအား Pulvereus Ursae Majoris သို့မဟုတ် ဖုန်ထူသော ဂလက်ဆီဟု ခေါ်ဆိုသည်။^[၅] ဘဲဥပုံစံ ဂလက်ဆီဟု ထင်ရသော်လည်း ယင်းသည် တမူထူးခြားသော ဂလက်ဆီဖြစ်သည်။ ယင်းအား ၁၈၀၁ နိုဝင်ဘာလ ၈ ရက်နေ့တွင် ဝီလီယံ ဟာရှယ်က ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည်။ ဂလက်ဆီ၏ အကွာအဝေးအား surface brightness fluctuation နည်းလမ်းဖြင့် တိုင်းတာရာ ၁၃ ± ၀.၈ Mly (၄.၀ ± ၀.၂ Mpc).^[၂] ရသည်။ ပျမ်းမျှအကွာဝေးမှာ 12.8 ± 0.7 Mly (3.9 ± 0.2 Mpc).^[a] ဖြစ်သည်။
