ပထန် (ပက်ရှ်တွန်း: پښتانه‎) သည် ဗဟိုအာရှနှင့် တောင်အာရှတွင် နေထိုင်သော အီရန်နွယ်ဖွားများဖြစ်ပြီး ယနေ့ အာဖဂန်သားတို့၏ ရှေ့မျိုးဆက်တည်း။ [၁][၂][၃] သုံးစွဲသည့် ဘာသာစကားမှာ အီရန်အရှေ့ပိုင်းတွင်သုံးသော ပါရှတိုစကားဖြစ်သည်။ ထို့အပြင် ပါရှန်းစကားပြောဖြစ်သော ဒါရီ (တာလီ) စကားကိုလည်း အသုံးများသည်။ [၄][၅][၆] အိန္ဒိယတိုက်ငယ်တွင်နေသော ပထန်တို့မှာ ဟင်ဒီ-အူရဒူဘာသာစကားတို့ကို ဒုတိယအသုံးများအဖြစ် သုံးသည်။ [၇][၈] အလွန်နည်းသောမျိုးနွယ်စုတို့သာ ပါရှန်းကိုသော်လည်းကောင်း၊ ဟင်ဒီ-အူရဒူကိုသော်လည်းကောင်း အားပြုသုံးစွဲသည်။ [၉] ပထန်လူမျိုးကို ၆၃ သန်းမျှရှိမည်ဟု ခန့်မှန်းထားသည်။ သို့သော် အာဖဂန်နစ္စတန်တွင် ၁၉၇၉ ကတည်းက သန်းခေါင်စာရင်း မကောက်တော့သဖြင့် အရေအတွက်ကို အတည်မယူသာ။ [၁၀]
