Moreover, he learnt and memorized the bell letters and Wizaya Pyazat (ဝိဇယပြဇာတ်) of the renowned poet and playwright U Ponnya, the then popular 11 plays, the Ten Great Birth Stories of the Buddha, 550 Jataka tales, and basic curriculum of astrology as well.
At the age of fourteen, he was novitiated and was called by the Dhamma name xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx passed away so his progress on learning was delayed. At sixteen, he attended Htaukkyantchin xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx learn mathematics then he went to study canonical texts and other Buddhist detailed explanatory xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx fully ordained at the age of 20, the customary time and ritual for a novice to enter monkhood in Theravada Buddhism. He even proceeded to other towns nearby, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx have learnt almost nothing but he later related to his students that his wanderings in and around Mandalay was useless. When a year went by, hxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx learnt repositories of Buddhist texts, especially Vinaya Pitaka for about eight months.
