ကေရလပြည်နယ်(မာလာရားလံ = കേരളം၊ ဟင်ဒီ = केरल)သည် မာလဘာကမ်းရိုးတန်း(Malabar Coast)ဟုခေါ်သော အိန္ဒိယနိုင်ငံ၏ အနောက်တောင်ဘက် ဒေသတွင် တည်ရှိသော ဖက်ဒရယ်ပြည်နယ် ဖြစ်သည်။ မူလက မာလာရားလံဘာသာအားဖြင့် ကေရလမ်(Keralam)ဟု ခေါ်သည်။[၁၃] မာလာရားလံစကားပြောဒေသများဖြစ်သော ကိုချင်း (Cochin)၊ မာလာဘာ (Malabar)၊ တောင်ကာနာရာ (South Canara) နှင့် တရက်ဗန်ကော(Travancore) ဒေသများကို ပေါင်းစည်းပြီး ၁၉၅၆ ခုနှစ် နိုဝင်ဘာလ ၁ ရက်နေ့တွင် ကေရလပြည်နယ်အဖြစ် ဖွဲ့စည်းခဲ့သည်။[၁၄][၁၅] ၃၈,၈၆၃ စတုရန်းကီလိုမီတာ (၁၅,၀၀၅ စတုရန်းမိုင်) ကျယ်ဝန်းပြီး၊ ဧရိယာအလိုက် ၁၄-ခုမြောက်အသေးဆုံး အိန္ဒိယပြည်နယ်တစ်ခု ဖြစ်သည်။ မြောက်နှင့်အရှေ့မြောက်ဘက်တွင် ကနာဋကပြည်နယ်(Karnataka)၊ အရှေ့နှင့်တောင်ဘက်တွင် တမီးလ်နာဒူပြည်နယ် (Tamil Nadu) နှင့် အနောက်ဘက်တွင် လက်ကဒိပင်လယ် (Laccadive Sea)[၁၆] တို့နှင့် နယ်နိမိတ်ချင်းထိစပ်နေသည်။
