Introducing users to Wikipedia

Cool. I'll be working on the FAQ section first to update it, and will work on Introductions as well. Ideally I would like to include more messages that would be more local to our audience. I believe Wikipedia does not require us to write exactly like it is in the English Version? Sure! I'm just basing what I'm doing right now on the English Wikipedia because we have not made policies customized to Burmese. Especially on non-article pages, whether we should be as proper-sounding. For the introduction, I wrote it out more like I was casually explaining, because that seemed like a better approach to attract more people so it doesn't seem like it's only for scholars. --Hintha 06:23, 10 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)

Can you please vote for Evertype? I have two reason for him, 1. He's Irish Wikipedia Admin i.e. he knows very well about how to handle this wiki. 2. He and Martin Hosken with the help of many Myanmars including me, solved problems of Unicode 4.1 and designed 5.1 which we are using today. He will be very helpful on conversion process and to maintain proper Unicode encoding on this wiki and to keep away pseudo-unicode encodings. MyMyanmar 19:07, 12 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)

I could not do that. I have iterated the reason on the RfA page. Hope you won't take this personally. I believe the nomination promises he is giving is a) conversion b) maintaining proper Unicode encoding and c) keeping away pseudo-Unicode encoding. All of these work will be better suited to an admin who can give more time. And since converted pages will have new names it simply needs to be converted and moved. This can be done by normal users as well. Only deletion needs privileged access. This we can do by marking for deletion, and you can go ahead and delete is just the way you are doing now for Hintha. Myanmar 3 and Parabaik

ကိုရာဝီရေ၊ ကျနော့အတွက် ပိတောက် font အလုပ်လုပ်ပေမယ့် ပုရပိုက်နဲ့ မြန်မာ၃ fonts တွေ တေ့ကောင်းကောင်းအလုပ်မလုပ်ဘူး။ ကျနော် အသတ်နဲ့ အောက်မြစ် အတူအတူနှိပ်ရင် အောက်မြစ်က စာလုံးအောက်မှာမရောက်ဘဲ "့" (စင့် --> စင် ့) လိုထွက်လာတယ်။ ကျနော်ဘာကြောင့်လဲ မသိဘူး။ ခင်ဗျားကူညီပေးနိုင်လာ? --⁠⁠⁠⁠Hintha 04:40, 18 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Currently this is an issue with MediaWiki software. The parser 'normalizes' the entries. I am currently talking with the developers about this and have filed a 'bug'. It will take me about 1 week to clearly identify that as a bug in Unicode Normalization Form C(NFC). You may find this [၁]link and this [၂] useful. MediaWiki stores Unicode data in a consistent way, hence everything becomes very searchable. But it does seem to be causing issues with Myanmar3 and Parabaik.--RaviC (talk • contribs) 12:42, 19 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)

I also have same problem in display as Hintha mentioned. I have Myanmar3, Myanmar2, Padauk and Zawgyi on my PC. It only happen today after I had changed "common.css" and "monobook.css". Even if I roll back and clear the cache, it still happen. Anyway, I kept the "common.css" and "monobook.css" as your advise in the latest version.--Zawthet 16:57, 23 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes Myanmar3 and Parabaik does have display problem, nevertheless we need a way to identify sequence errors. Hence having that as the first default is very helpful for editors. The reason for Myanmar3 and Parabaik having render problem is because the rules for Normalization changed in the Unicode Character Database, but this fact was not updated in the Unicode Technical Note #11 which was authored for Myanmar. Apart from the drawback that Wikipedia articles containing အသတ် and အောက်မြစ် look ugly, it is still helpful. --RaviC (talk • contribs) 17:42, 23 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)
