Inkscape သည် ဂရပ်ဖစ် တည်းဖြတ်ရေး ဆော့ဝဲလ်တစ်ခုဖြစ်သော Sodipodi ဟုအမည်ပေးထားသော ပရောဂျက်ဖြင့် ၂၀၀၃ ခုနှစ်တွင် ကနဦး စတင်ခဲ့သည်။[၉] Sodipodi ကို ၁၉၉၉ ခုနှစ်တွင် တီထွင်ခဲ့ပြီး Raph Levien ၏ GNOME Illustration Application (Gill) အပေါ် အခြေခံထားသည်။[၁၀] Inkscape ပရောဂျက်၏ အဓိကဦးစားပေးများထဲမှတစ်ခုမှာ GNOME Human Interface လမ်းညွှန်ချက်များကို လိုက်နာခြင်းဖြင့် အင်တာဖေ့စ်ညီညွတ်မှုရှိရန် နှင့် အသုံးပြုနိုင်ရန် ဖြစ်သည်။[၉]
