In many places on the coast of southern Siamhundreds of phra phim (stamped gods) have been found,some with the features of the Buddha on the obverse and Paliformulae on the reverse, and some impressed with one or otherof the Hindu divinities. Caves are the usual places where suchobjects are discovered, often underneath a layer of batsguano three feet thick. British Museum experts who haveexamined them pronounce them to date from the twelfthcentur) and to be the counterparts of the tablets found inKasmir, Tibet, and parts of north-west India.
