[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] New discussion about Unicode 5.1 encoding
Please make your comments here at the top of the page. In due course I will archive all the previous discussion, though I have left it there for now. Evertype 07:57, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- I made a font that is Unicode 5.1 conformant. It works on every major operation system's rendering system including Mac OS X (Apple Advanced Typography), Graphite (for Linux and some Windows apps) and OpenType for Windows Operating System. I plan to release it as FREE very soon. MyMyanmar 08:16, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- I am currently testing the MyMyanmar Unicode font on Mac OS X. Evertype 19:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] What font for Unicode 5.1
Is there any font which complies with Unicode 5.1 encoding for various OSs? Is it Myanmar2? Thanks.
- Please register and sign your posts. No, the NLP font does not offer Unicode 5.1 encoding for all platforms. Evertype 19:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- As I mentioned on the top of this page, MyMyanmar will offer font which compiles with Unicode 5.1 encoding for various platforms. MyMyanmar 12:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Has MyMyanmar released that 'multi-platform' version yet? Please add it to the list above with a URL to download if you have. By reading that Evertype is testing on MacOSX, I assumed Unicode 5.1 version of the font is released, but I can only find Unicode 4.1. Thanks. Luaye 10:16, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- No, MyMyanmar and I are testing privately. The font will be called "Anawrahta" and we hope to release it soon. It has full shaping behaviour not only for the Myanmar letters, but also for the minority-language additions. Evertype 11:37, 1 ဇူလိုင် 2007 (UTC).
- Nobody,i repeat, nobody is interested in fonts for multi-platform.Why ridicule the true Burmese Unicode font-development communities ? This Anawrhata font developer, MyMyanmar,so far fails in Unicode 4. and 5.1 as well. June 07, 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.206.243.149 • (talk • contribs) 04:14, 2008-06-07

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Available fonts
As for now, I have found the following fonts fitting with Unicode 5.1
- PadaukOT from Than Lwin Soft (has Graphite table as well -far superior than Microsoft's Uniscribe - and OpenType)
--sample page[၁]-ပြင်ဆင်ထားသည်။
- Myanmar2 by Myanmar Unicode & NLP Research Center (Open Type)
Both free (OFL / LGPL).
- ParabaikSans by Solveware Solution (Open Type) Both Free (OFLed/GPLed)
--comparison page[၂]
- Myanmar3 by [၃]
Testing these fonts according to the notes from Unicode.org: Representing Myanmar in Unicode shows that Myanmar2 does not produce ယ္အ correctly.
Myanmar2 download page says that it include "proposal characters to 29th IUC Conference" [၄] which confuses me if that means their font is not fully compatible with Unicode 5.1

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Font Previews
Myanmar 3 font is out there... It's pretty good. You should try it. 12pt font previews generated on Windows Mail @ Vista 64
The comparison with English font (Arial) shows that Myanmar2 and Padauk fonts have smaller english fonts. As a result, this would not be great to mix English and Myanmar fonts in the same document.

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Previews for incorrect font/encoding
The following is to give you an idea of what you can expect to see in different font and encoding enviroments. Myanmar1 font is Unicode4 compliant. Myanmar2 font is unicode 5 compliant.
- Unicode 5, correct encoding, Myanmar2 font:

- Unicode 5, no encoding, Myanmar2 font:

- Unicode 5, correct encoding, Myanmar1 font:
- the behaviour here is wrong; there should be a subscript RA. - Unicode 5, no encoding, Myanmar1 font:

- Unicode 4, correct encoding, Myanmar1 font:

- Unicode 4, no encoding, Myanmar1 font:

- Unicode 4, correct encoding, Myanmar2 font:

- Unicode 4, no encoding, Myanmar2 font:

[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Font size here at my.wiki
I don't know if it is only me (I tested on 3 machines) but - both English and Myanmar texts are very small to unreadable. Whats going on? At least say in home page or somewhere visible what viewers need to do please.
I use latest Firefox ver 3 [၅] and have ONLY Padauk TT font in my font folder. No need to change any configuration. All working alright.Mozilla Suite browser also same .But Internet Explorer 7, one has to configure to use Padauk TT thru Internet Options tab/font -.[၆] Latest Opera also needs correct font in the font folder and it displays correctly.
[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Where to get Myanmar Unicode input keyboard driver
If you are looking for Myanmar Unicode input you should visit to http://thanlwinsoft.org Or for seldom use ,why not grab tiny one (click & type) from http://zinyaw.wordpress.com or through this radio tool bar http://yangoncityfm.ourtoolbar.com
[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Dysfunctional article pages
I just converted/added new Wiki pages, but they don't appear to work. For example, ချင်းပြည်နယ် works, but ချင်းပြည်နယ် does not appear. Is there something wrong with the text? The same issue occurs for these pages: ကချင်ပြည်နယ်/ကချင်ပြည်နယ်, ကယားပြည်နယ်/ကယားပြည်နယ်. I noticed this when I converted this template (Template:ပ္ရည္ထောင္စုမ္ရန္မာနိုင္ငံတော္) to Unicode 5.1. --Hintha 04:08, 30 ဇွန် 2008 (UTC)
- Copy and paste the State/Division name exactly as it appears on the template page. The two names look the same, but are encoding differently. The user perceives these two to be the same, but encoding wise they are different. As a side note, users using search features for one will not find the other. This is not beneficial. We will need to find ways to curb this. Hope this helps.--ကိုရာဝီ 12:42, 9 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)
[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Getting Burmese Unicode 5.1 to work on IE8
I'm not sure if we should post instructions for this, but at least with IE8 (and I'm pretty sure IE7), if you download Padauk 2.4, the Graphite engine works if you configure IE's Internet Options. Go to the Internet Options, on the General tab, click on Fonts, and scroll down on the "Language script:" to "Myanmar" and for the "Webpage font," select Padauk and click OK.--Hintha 23:02, 1 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)
- This is because Paduak is now both OpenType and Graphite. It is not because IE support Graphite. It works with IE6,and IE7 as well. Works with all versions of FireFox. You need not set font in IE to Paduak, because Paduak is included in the latest CSS on Myanmar Wikipedia. I have tested it. Let me know if it doesn't' work. --ကိုရာဝီ 13:51, 7 ဇူလိုင် 2008 (UTC)
[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Discussion with Zawgyi
(in page)>> Zawgyi is currently the preferred solution for input in Myanmar-language websites
- I don't agree that Zawgyi is preferred solution. We could say, Zawgyi is commonly used solution. preferred solution will be Unicode 5.1 instead. Okisan ၀၅:၂၄၊ ၁၂ ဩဂုတ် ၂၀၀၈ (UTC)
(in page)>>Using ZawGyi or other pseudo-Unicode fonts means no future to support Mon, Shan, Karen and many other ethnic languages
- This is incorrect. Currently ZawGyi support more languages (including minority) than all three Unicode 5.1 provide. ZawGyi also has a developmental version that support Mon and Shan.
The font page writeup is childish, lack citation and poor coverage. I would expect elaborated explanation of Unicode 5.1 storage scheme and its advantage in language processing. Okisan ၀၅:၃၃၊ ၁၂ ဩဂုတ် ၂၀၀၈ (UTC)
[ပြင်ဆင်ရန်] Problem
Having external links are useful, but there is no mention about how to install. I, myself, know some about installing fonts. Please consider of other users who need to follow step-by-step as well. Thank you. --125.24.68.174 ၀၇:၅၇၊ ၂၃ ဩဂုတ် ၂၀၀၈ (UTC)
